Installing the Fonts for this Project

For the "retro" look of the Retro Titles Effect, we need '60's-style typefaces. In a later task, we'll also be adding some '60's-style music. The fonts we're using are fonts that were created by Ben Balvanz, a pioneer in the field of electronic type design. The two fonts, Alba and Chick, have a distinctive 1960's feel and will help give this project the retro look we're shooting for. We'll use the Alba font for the actor's credits and the Chick font for the opening and closing titles.

Install the Two Fonts

From the Windows Start button, select Control Panel.

On the Control Panel, select Appearance and Themes.

Note

These steps and illustrations refer to the default setup of Windows XP. If you have Windows XP in "Classic View," select Fonts from the Control Panel at this time.

From the See Also box on the left side of the screen, select Fonts.

When the Fonts folder opens, select File, Install New Font.

On the Add Fonts dialog box, use the Drives drop down to locate your DVD drive.

Tip

Be sure the DVD supplied with this book is in your DVD drive.

Navigate to the Extras folder on the DVD, then to the Fonts folder.

The Alba (True Type) font and the Chick (True Type) fonts will show up in the list of fonts. Select these two fonts and click OK.

Note

After the fonts have been installed, close the Fonts folder and close the Appearance and Themes window.
