Loading the New England Clips to the Timeline

Our journey starts on the East Coast, moves to California, and ends in Hawaii. So the first clips that we are going to add to the My Project panel Timeline are the two East Coast clips, NE_reporter.avi and fallfoliage.avi We have a unique problem with the fallfoliage.avi clip. The camera zooms in on the pumpkin stand. This would surely give it away that our "reporter" really isn't at the scene. However, we can solve this by syncing the zoom in the fallfoliage.avi clip with a zoom on the reporter that we create in Premiere Elements.

The Trip Starts in New England

Drag the fallfoliage.avi clip onto the Video 1 track on the My Project panel. Line up the head of the fallfoliage.avi clip with the start of the Video 1 track.

Tip

If you are in Sceneline view, just drop the clip onto the first scene placeholder.

Drag the NE_reporter.avi clip onto the Video 2 track. Again, line up the head of the clip with the start of the track.

Tip

These two clips happen to be the same length. This is typically not the case.

If the My Project panel is not already in Timeline view, click the Timeline button (shown below) to switch.

Tip

We need to be in Timeline view because we'll be working with multiple video tracks.

Did You Know?

There are two ways to preview available. Premiere Elements has two ways for you to take a quick look at any clip in your project. One way is to activate the Preview Area in the Media panel (select the MORE button at the top right, and then select View, Preview Area). Select a clip and click the tiny Play button up by the Preview Area to watch a thumbnail version. View a larger preview by double-clicking any clip in the Media panel or on the Timeline to open the Preview panel, a resizeable panel similar to the Monitor panel.
