Setting Our Hero's Flight in Motion In this task, we will really be making Superboy fly. We'll resize, move, and set a flight path for our hero, all using the Motion effect in Premiere Elements and keyframes. Change Superboy's Size - Select the superboy.avi clip on the Video 2 track in the Timeline.
Timesaver Be sure the CTI is in the home position at the start of the Timeline. If it isn't, you can drag it there with your mouse, or simply press the Home key on your keyboard. - Click the triangle next to Motion on the Properties panel for the superboy.avi clip to reveal the effect's controls.
- Click on the word Motion in the Properties panel for the superboy.avi clip.
Tip You should see a box appear around the clip in the Monitor panel. - Grab one of the corner handles of the superboy.avi clip and drag it to resize the clip, as shown in the illustration.
Tip Resize the clip to about 25%. You can also do this by typing 25 for the Scale setting in the Properties panel. Change Superboy's Starting Location - Drag the superboy.avi clip over to the upper left of the Monitor panel screen, as shown in the illustration. It should be roughly in Position 54.0, 112.0 or thereabouts.
- Click the Show Keyframes button on the Properties panel to reveal the workspace for adding keyframes. Expand this area as needed.

You want to see as much of the Properties panel timeline as possible. - Set the position and scale to be:
- Click the Toggle animation button to turn on the animation functionality of Premiere Elements.

- Drag the superboy.avi clip over to the center of the monitor screen.
- Set the Position property for the clip as follows:
- Set the Scale property for the clip as follows:
Timesaver After you adjust the position of the superboy.avi clip, Premiere Elements automatically drops a keyframe for the Position property. After you adjust the scale, Premiere Elements will then drop keyframes for both Scale and Scale Width. Did You Know? Place a keyframe whenever and wherever you want to make a change. As you work on your projects, whenever you need an animation (time)-related changesuch as a change to the size of an object, its orientation (rotation), or its location move the CTI to the point in the Timeline where you want that change to occur and, with the animation function active as we have it here in this chapter, make your change. Remember, the more keyframes you use, the more control you have over the object (clip) that you are morphing. Remember, too, that Premiere Elements fills in the blanks, so to speak (known as "tweening") between each of the keyframes and their settings, in sequence. |
Change the Monitor Panel View - Right-click on the Monitor panel screen.
- From the contextual menu that displays, select Magnification.
- From the Magnification Fly-out menu, select 50%.
Important In order to see the black areas outside of the visible clip, you may need to first resize the Monitor panel. Set the Final Locations and Sizes for the Super Hero - Drag the CTI over to the 8 second mark, 00;00;08;00.
- Drag the superboy.avi clip over to the left of the monitor screen, as shown in the illustration. The clip should now be roughly at this position:
- Adjust the scale as follows:
Timesaver Premiere Elements automatically places keyframes for you for the Position, Scale, and Scale Width properties. - Drag the CTI to the end of the superboy.avi clip (00;00;11;16).
- Drag the superboy.avi clip over to "off camera" down to the bottom right of the monitor screen, as shown in the illustration. The clip should now be roughly at this position:
