Adding the Chroma Key a Second Time

This particular background is a difficult one to remove. If we use just the one Chroma Key effect and keep increasing the Similarity setting, we will eventually chip away at the foreground image, superboy, in our attempt to get rid of all the green. (Eventually, if you go high enough, every color in the spectrum is "similar" to green.) Fortunately, there's an easy solution because Premiere Elements lets you apply as many instances of the Chroma Key as you need, each one targeted at a specific color.

Once More with the Chroma Key

Once again, select the Chroma Key from the Keying category of Video Effects.

Drag and drop it for a second time onto the superboy.avi clip on the Video 2 track.

In the Properties panel for the superboy.avi clip, click the triangle next to the second Chroma Key effect to twirl it down and reveal the effect's controls.

Timesaver

To avoid confusion, first close the effect controls for the first Chroma Key by clicking the triangle next to it to twirl it up.

Select the eyedropper tool again, and click to select the dark green area on the greenscreen background from the frame from the superboy.avi clip in the Monitor panel.

Back in the Properties panel, set the following:

  • Similarity:

10.0%

  • Blend:

3.0%

  • Smoothing:

High
