Adjusting the Brightness or Contrast of Either Clip as Needed

Now that we have our two clips happily co-existing side-by-side, and have cast a ghostly pallor upon our "ghost" using the Opacity control, we need to adjust some settings on the ghost clip so that the two clips more exactly match. This is because by overlaying the two clips and adjusting the opacity, the ghost clip is actually darkening the clip beneath it somewhat. In addition, even though the two clips were filmed within minutes of each other, changes in light and shadow have occurred, enough so that the two clips aren't exactly identical.

Match the Appearance of the Two Clips

Select the no-ghost.avi clip on the Video 1 track.

In the Properties panel, click the arrow next to Image Control to display its controls, if they aren't already visible.

Drag the number next to Contrast and set the amount to 94.0.

Did You Know?

Sometimes, the light is just right. Adjusting the brightness, contrast, hue, or other settings on one or both video clips should only be necessary when filming outdoors during the day or indoors using natural light. You shouldn't need to make adjustments when filming using artificial light exclusively. In such cases, all of the lights and shadows should be consistent enough that the two clips are virtually identical in terms of their image values.
