Adding the Video Media to the Timeline

Your first step in working on any project, even if that project is simply creating a short video segment, is to create a new Premiere Elements project and give it a descriptive name. Remember, project file names in Premiere Elements can be up to 100 characters long (including any spaces between words) and can therefore be very descriptive. Your next step, typically, is to bring in the media files you'll be using for the project. In this step, we'll first bring in the two video clips we'll be working with on this project.

Load the Two Video Clips into Premiere Elements

Start Premiere Elements and create a new project called friendlyghost.

Click the Get Media from button on the Media panel to access the Get Media from view, if it's not already active.

Select DVD, Digital Camera, Mobile Phone, Hard Drive Camcorder, Card Reader.

When the Media Downloader displays, click the Advanced Dialog button to switch to Advanced mode.

Select the following clips for this project:

  • ghost.avi

  • no-ghost.avi

Click the Get Media button. Premiere Elements copies the clips from the DVD onto your hard drive and adds them to the Available Media list for this project.

Add the Two Video Clips the Timeline

Switch to Timeline view at this time by clicking the Timeline button on the upper right corner of the My Project panel.

Click the no-ghost.avi clip on the Media panel to select it and drag and drop it onto the Timeline in the Video 1 track so that the head (front) of the clip is at the very beginning of the track.

Tip

Because you just added the file to the Media panel, the no-ghost.avi clip may already be selected. It's possible that when you clicked on it just now, you actually deselected it. If this happens to you, just click on the no-ghost.avi clip once more to select it.

Drag the CTI six seconds and 25 frames into the video; in other words to 00;00;06;25.

Click the second clip, ghost.avi, on the Media panel to select it, then drag and drop it onto the Timeline in the Video 2 track. Position the clip directly against the CTI so that it starts at 00;00;06;25.
