Adding Some Playful Elfish Music Under

Adding Some Playful Elfish Music "Under"

This goes without saying, but we can't create a video clip that features an elf without having a bit of elfish music playing in the background. In this line of work, video editing, music in the background playing softly is known as playing "under." On the DVD that was supplied with this book, we've given you a bit of elf music, elfish_song.wav. (Actually, the real title as generated by SmartSound Quicktracks is "SmartSound - Synergy - Emergent [00;29;26].wav," but let's face it, that's not very catchy. So we renamed it.) Let's add that to the project now and we're just about ready to call it a "wrap."

Add the Music to the Project and Adjust the Audio on the Elf Clip

Click the Get Media from button on the Media panel to access the Get Media from view, if it's not already active.

Select DVD, Digital Camera, Mobile Phone, Hard Drive Camcorder, Card Reader.

When the Media Downloader displays, click the Advanced Dialog button to switch to Advanced mode.

Select the elfish_song.wav clip and then click the Get Media button. Premiere Elements copies the elfish_song.wav clip from the DVD onto your hard drive.

Drag and drop the elfish_song.wav clip onto the Audio 1 track, so that the front of the clip is at the front of the track.

Grab the tail end of the elfish_song.wav clip and trim it back so that, at 00;00;21;14, it's just slightly longer in duration than the elfgarden.bmp on the Video 1 track.

With the elfish_song.wav clip still selected, go to the Properties panel and set the Clip Volume to -12.0 dB.

Click the Fade Out button.

Right-click on the elf.avi clip on the Video 2 track. From the contextual menu, select Audio Gain.

From the Clip Gain dialog box, click the Normalize button and click OK.
