Finding and Marking Offensive Moments

Finding and Marking "Offensive Moments"

On this step, you'll first listen to the clip once through to find the sections of the video where "bad things happen." Next, you play it again with your finger poised over the Spacebar on your keyboard. As you reach each "bad place," you'll hit the Spacebar, place a marker, and hit the Spacebar again to move on. The marker will let you jump to each bad place to take remedial action in the next step.

We need the My Project panel to be in Timeline view, if it isn't already. To switch to Timeline view, click the Timeline button in the upper right of the My Project panel.

Press the Spacebar and listen carefully.

Click the Add Marker button to place a marker at this spot.

Press the Spacebar again to continue.

The next "bleepable" moment occurs at 00;00;13;25 (thirteen seconds and 25 frames in). Press the Spacebar to pause here.

Click the Add Marker button again to place another marker at this spot.

Press the Spacebar again to continue.

The next "bleepable" moment occurs at 00;00;15;10 (fifteen seconds, ten fames in). Press the Spacebar again to pause here.

Click the Add Marker button again to place a third marker at this spot.

Press the Spacebar to continue.

The next "bleepable" moment occurs at 00;00;40;08 (forty seconds, 8 frames in). Press the Spacebar to pause here.

Did You Know?

You can use the arrow keys on your keyboard for frame-by-frame accuracy. You can "scrub" to the sound your looking for by dragging the Current Time Indicator (CTI) to the general vicinity. Then, for frame-level accuracy, use the right and left arrow keys on your keyboard to move along the Timeline, one frame at a time: 00;00;13;22, 00;00;13;23, 00;00;13;24...

Did You Know?

You can access the marker contextual menu for additional options. The unnumbered markers you've been adding may be hard to see initially, due to the fact that they're light gray on a light gray background. Find a marker and right-click on it and you see a contextual menu that enables you to clear that individual marker or all markers; set a numbered marker, an unnumbered marker, or a DVD marker; jump to a marker: and so on. (Clicking anywhere on the Timeline ruler brings up the same menu, only with the Clear Timeline Marker option grayed out.)

You can add comments to markers. By double-clicking on a marker, you access the Marker dialog box. Here you can add comments, such as describing why you placed this marker. You can also add a URL link and frame information; create chapter links for use with Adobe Encore; change the duration of the marker; jump to the previous or next marker; or delete the marker.
