Adding the Green of the Night Vision Using the Tint Effect

Most people (correctly) associate the look of night vision with a dark green color. To capitalize on this association, we'll be tinting our clip a deep green as the next step in creating the illusion that our clip was filmed under "night vision" circumstances. To produce this "green-ness," we first apply the Tint video effect in Premiere Elements to the clip. We then tweak the color to achieve an acceptable night vision green.

Tint the Clip Green

In the text box on the Effects and Transitions view of the Media panel, type tint.

Select the Tint effect under the Video Effects in the Image Control category and drag and drop it onto the nightsuspects.avi clip on the Video 1 track on the Timeline.

With the nightsuspects.avi clip selected on the Timeline, click the triangle next to the Tint effect on the Properties panel to reveal the effect's controls.

Adjust the Black color value by clicking the black color swatch next to Map Black to and entering the following values in the Color Picker dialog box.

  • H: 150

  • S: 100

  • B: 30

Click OK to close the Color Picker dialog box.

Adjust the White color value by clicking the white color swatch next to Map White to and entering the following values in the Color Picker dialog box and clicking OK.:

  • H: 120

  • S: 80

  • B: 60

Click OK to close the Color Picker dialog box.

Back on the Properties panel, set the Amount to tint to 100%.
