Adding the Background Clip to the Timeline

In this task, we'll get the "background" clip and drop it on the Timeline. The background clip will supply the action over which your title will be superimposed. This can be any clip at all, but the more movement and action the better. If you are skilled at motion effects, the scenes can gently move across the screen or gradually get larger during the clip. Use your imagination and experiment: you may come up with an impressive opening sequence for your project this way. The background clip can also be a photograph or set of photographs. For this project, we have supplied you with a background video clip, autumn_leaves.avi.

Add Your Main "Background" Clip to the Timeline

Click the Get Media from button on the Media panel to access the Get Media from view, if it's not already active.

Select DVD, Digital Camera, Mobile Phone, Hard Drive Camcorder, Card Reader.

When the Media Downloader displays, click the Advanced Dialog button to switch to Advanced mode.

Select the autumn_leaves.avi clip for this project.

Click the Get Media button. Premiere Elements copies the autumn_leaves.avi clip from the DVD onto your hard drive and adds it to the Available Media list for this project.

From the Media panel, drag the autumn_leaves.avi clip to the Video 1 track on the Timeline.

Important

Be sure to drag the autumn_leaves.avi clip so that the front of the clip lines up with the very front of the Video 1 track.
