Removing the Existing Colors from the Clip

In order to effectively add the "night vision green" to our clip, we'll first need to remove the existing full-color palette from the clip. Otherwise, the tinting process will only "colorize" the clip, leaving a variety of shades of the original colors still showing through. To convert a color clip to a clip with no colors is simple with Premiere Elements: all you do is drag and drop the Black and White video effect onto the clip you want to change and the effect is instantaneous.

Start with a "Blank Palette"

Click on the Effects and Transitions button on the Media panel to switch to the Effects and Transitions view.

Type black in the text box in the Effects and Transitions view.

Select the Black & White video effect and drag and drop it onto the nightsuspects.avi clip on the Video 1 track on the Timeline.

In the Monitor panel, view how your clip has changed from color to black and white.

Tip

In general, the more you type of the name of the effect you are looking for in the text box in the Effects and Transitions view of the Media panel, the more you'll narrow your search, and the less scrolling through the search results you'll need to do.
