Adding the Transporter Beam to the Timeline

Now that the inter-dimensional traveller and the place he's traveling to are both on the Timeline, it's time to add the transporter beam to the Timeline to get him to his destination. The transporter beam is just a lighting effect animated so that it appears to move slightly down from above. It has no sound yet, but we'll be adding that critical component in a later task.

Transporter On!

We want the transporter beam to start appearing just slightly ahead of the transporterman.avi clip. so first let's set the CTI at the 00;00;01;15 mark.

Then, with your mouse, select the transporterbeam.avi in the Media panel.

Drag and drop the transporterbeam.avi clip on to the Video 4 track on the Timeline so that the head (front) of the clip lines up with the CTI.

Note

We're dropping this clip onto the Video 4 track because we'll be placing another clip on the Video 3 track in a later task.

Did You Know?

Premiere Elements creates tracks as needed. If you don't have a spare track, in this case a Video 4 track, for the transporterbeam.avi clip to drop on to, no problem. As you drag the clip, just drop it in the blank space above the topmost clip. Premiere Elements will go ahead and create the new track. Premiere Elements does have an explicit function to add more tracks. (To use it, right-click in the track margin and select Add Tracks, as shown in the illustration below.) However, there's really no need to go out of your way to use it unless you know you need to add a number of tracks. Adding audio tracks works the same way.
