Adding the Four Video Clips to the Timeline

For this task, we will add to the Timeline the four video clips that will populate the four PiPs in each of the four corners of the screen. The lower-left and lower-right PiPs work perfectly as is, but in a later task we'll need to make a very small adjustment to the upper-left and upper-right PiPs so that they are positioned correctly in relation to the digital clock we created.

Import or Capture Your Video Clips

From the Available Media view of the Media panel, drag and drop the newyork.avi clip onto Video 2, aligned with the third "beep" on the Audio 1 track at 00;00;06;10.

Drag and drop the sanfran.avi clip onto Video 3 track, aligned with the fourth "beep" on the Audio 1 track at 00;00;07;00.

Tip

Press the Page Down (PgDn) key on your key board to jump the CTI to the start of the next clip on the Timeline. When the CTI is at the start of the next 24beep.wav clip, drag the video clip to line up with the CTI.

Drag and drop the urban.avi clip onto Video 4 track, aligned with the with the fifth "beep" on the Audio 1 track at 00;00;07;20.

Timesaver

If you currently only have three video tracks (the default number of tracks in Premiere Elements), you don't need to manually create the track first. Simply drag the urban.avi clip onto the dark gray area just above the Video 3 track (as shown in the illustration) and Premiere Elements will automatically create the new track for you.

Drag and drop the dublin.avi clip onto Video 5 track, aligned with the sixth "beep" on the Audio 1 track at 00;00;08;10.

Note

As noted above, if you don't have a Video 5 track, one will be created for you. When you are done, the video clips will be arranged in a stair-step fashion (as shown in the illustration to the right) so that each clip starts a few beats after the preceding clip, synchronized with the "beep."
