Make Your Old Films Jump: Simulate the Jumpiness of Old Films by Splitting Clips

The reason people seem to jump about in old filmswhere a person could be standing in the middle of the room one second, and then suddenly a second later he or she is standing by the dooris because of the deterioration over time to which celluloid is prone. When film deteriorates, it eventually falls apart, and sections of it can no longer be run through the projector. When that happens, a film editor slices the film before and after the bad spot, and then tapes it back together in a process called "splicing." You can simulate this effect using the Split Clip button. Just move the CTI to any point in the clip and click the Split Clip button. Move the CTI again a few frames or even a few seconds into the future and click Split Clip again. Depending on the length of the clip you are "deteriorating," you can create one or many such "jump spots" to convincingly, and quickly, age any clip.
