Adding Some Period Music to the Soundtrack

The final touch for this project is to add some period music to the soundtrack. On the DVD that accompanies this book is a song that has a "long ago" feel, vintagesong.wav. This is a song that is part of the SmartSound® Quicktracks™ software. We've renamed it for ease of use (its name as it appears in Quicktracks is SmartSound - Piano Sonata - Gather [00;31;26].wav). Add it to the soundtrack of your project, adjust the volume so that it sounds right, set it so that it fades out at the end, and we are done.

Add Some Vintage Music to the Project

Click the Get Media from button on the Media panel to access the Get Media from view, if it's not already active.

Select DVD, Digital Camera, Mobile Phone, Hard Drive Camcorder, Card Reader.

When the Media Downloader displays, click the Advanced Dialog button to switch to Advanced mode.

Select the vintagesong.wav clip.

Click the Get Media button. Premiere Elements copies the vintagesong.wav clip from the DVD onto your hard drive and adds it to the Available Media list for this project.

From the Media panel, select vintagesong.wav and drag it to the Timeline onto the Audio 2 track so that the head (front) of the clip is at the very beginning of the track.

Drag the tail end of the clip and trim it back so that it extends about a few frames beyond the end of the 1850-old.avi video clip. (You want it to end about 00;00;09;10 or so. It doesn't have to be exact.)

On the Properties pane, adjust the Volume of the clip so that it fades out at the end by clicking the Fade Out button.
