Saving the Clip as an AVI File

Now that we have some quality "old film" scratches and dust applied to the video clip, we need to export it from Movie Maker so that we can bring it into Premiere Elements. The best format for saving the clip for our purposes is something Movie Maker calls "DV-AVI." Basically, this is a universal, high-quality AVI format. Because video formats are standard, the clip you export from Movie Maker can be opened in Premiere Elements.

Save the Clip from Movie Maker

Click Save to my computer in the Finish Movie task menu of Movie Maker.

The Save Movie Wizard starts. The first screen is the Saved Movie File screen. On this screen, change the name of the video file from the default name to 1850-old.avi. Click Next.

Note

You can optionally change the folder the clip is being saved to.

The next screen in Save Movie Wizard is the Movie Settings screen. Select Show more choices. This will present three options, one of which is Other settings.

Click the Other settings radio button. From the Other settings drop down menu, select DV-AVI. Click Next.

Note

Movie Maker shows you the progress it's making creating the movie file on the Saving Movie screen.

When Movie Maker has finished, uncheck the Play movie when I click Finish check box.

Click Finish to close the Save Movie Wizard.

Close Movie Maker by selecting File, Exit.

You'll be prompted to save your changes. Click No.
