Appendix C. Integration with Flash MX
Macromedia Flash Remoting service serves as the layer of communication between Flash and the application server. Developers will now be able to interact with different applications servers such as ColdFusion MX, Java, and .NET. All communication will be handled through the new Action Message Format (AMF), which works well over HTTP. The server-side component of Macromedia Flash Remoting service, also known as the Flash Gateway, allows developers to make calls from Flash to the application server. New Macromedia Flash Remoting service classes are now available in ActionScript that allow Flash to communicate with the server through the Flash Gateway. These classes are known as NetServices and offer increased performance and functionality over the older methods previously discussed.
