Chapter 28. Working with Dynamic Data
Although the Live Data Mode feature has been around since the first version of UltraDev, the new version of Live Data Mode is a bit more accessible than before. With the feature now available from the toolbar, Live Data Mode provides the capability to view dynamic data from within Dreamweaver MX's IDE without having to open a browser to see the results. The Live Data Mode feature is just a matter of clicking the icon to the right of the design view icon on the toolbar. Figure 28.62 shows the button depressed with dynamic content within the document window.

Live Data Settings
Live Data Settings enable you to modify parameters and scripts that will be executed at runtime during Live Data Mode. For instance, if you switch to Live Data Mode, you'll notice that you can do little more than view the contents for that record. By modifying the setting for Live Data, you could essentially pass a parameter across the querystring to navigate to a different record. To modify Live Data Settings follow the instructions outlined next:
With Live Data Mode on, select Live Data Settings from the View menu. The Live Data Settings dialog box will appear.
Notice that you can modify the URL Request variable and value by selecting the + symbol.
Click it and enter the information shown in Figure 28.63.

NOTE
If this page was being viewed in the browser, dsProducts_currentPage would be the variable being sent across. Its value would change according to the page that you wanted to navigate to.
Select OK.
The result shows the movie information for Airplane because it is the third record.
TIP
You don't have to open the Live Data Settings dialog box every time you want to modify the URL Request. You can simply modify it in the Live Data Settings toolbar that appears just below the Object toolbar.
