IN THIS CHAPTER

  • Working with Objects

  • Working with Behaviors

  • Customizing Dreamweaver MX Menus Using menus.xml

  • Sharing Extensions

The beauty in Dreamweaver does not lie solely in the fact that you can build high-scale Web sites and applications; it also lies in its interface. Interface, you ask? Dreamweaver, unlike many applications on the market today that force you to purchase costly third-party extensions and work in the rigid menu-driven environment that they provide, allows for complete customization and control by you, the user. A relatively new concept in software development, Dreamweaver MX, along with its predecessors, was developed with user workflow and task achievement in mind, regardless of how you prefer to work.

Because Dreamweaver MX was built on a JavaScript/HTML foundation, all menus, dialog boxes, objects, and commands are completely customizable with just a little knowledge of JavaScript, HTML, and XML. This chapter focuses on extending Dreamweaver MX's IDE by allowing you to customize your workflow and produce the following:

  • Custom objects

  • Custom behaviors

  • New menu items

  • Your own public extensions
