The file formats mentioned previously: MPEG, QuickTime, and AVI, are good choices for linking video content into a page. As I mentioned earlier, many of the players offer some kind of fast-start scenario where the movie starts playing after a certain amount of data has been downloaded, allowing it the rest of the playing time to download the rest of the content. Linking video into an HTML document is easy. Just follow these steps:

1. Select an image, text, or any other element in your document that you want to act as the trigger to launch the movie.

2. In the Properties Inspector, next to the Link text field, click the Browse for File icon (folder).

3. In the Select File dialog box, search for the movie you want to link. Choose OK (Mac) or Select (Windows).

4. The link text field is automatically filed in with the appropriate path to the video, as displayed in Figure 13.4.

5. Preview the document in a browser by pressing F12. A window opens with your media player containing the video you selected, as shown in Figure 13.5.

   Figure 13.5. After you press the link, the file and media format will launch the appropriate media player, if it is installed in your system.
