Andrew Douglas Pitonyak

Author Andrew Pitonyak is a Lead Software Engineer for Qwest Communications International Inc. He has been using OpenOffice.org since it was StarOffice 5 and he is the author of "Andrew's Macro Document" ( http://www.pitonyak.org ). He has a Master of Science degree in computer science and another in mathematics.

In his spare time, Andrew participates in the contemporary worship team at church , is a trained Stephen Minister and a professional puppeteer, works on his house, and spends time with his wife. He is an NRA certified firearms instructor, and he holds a General class amateur radio license. Andrew requests that if you are browsing this book at a bookstore, you should say very loudly, so that everyone can hear, "Wow! Jean Hollis Weber

Technical Editor Jean Hollis Weber has more than 20 years of experience planning, writing, editing, indexing, and testing user manuals and online help for computer software and hardware. She has worked for numerous organizations including the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO), IBM Australia, and Lexmark International Australia, both alone on small projects and as a team member and team leader on large projects.

A technical publications consultant for the past 10 years, Jean has worked with clients , written books, taught short courses in technical writing and editing, and presented parts of graduate and undergraduate courses at several Australian universities. She is active in the Society for Technical Communication (STC) Australia Chapter and other professional organizations. Her Web site, The Technical Editors' Eyrie ( http://www.jeanweber.com ), won a Merit Award in the STC-Australia online communication competition in 2002.

C. Robert Pearsall

Technical Editor C. Robert (Bob) Pearsall is President of AXON Research ( www.axonresearch.com ), a consultancy specializing in the use of information technology to improve business operations and to enhance the effectiveness of knowledge workers. He specializes in clinical research and regulatory operations for the pharmaceutical and biotechnology "life sciences" industry. His clients have included small specialty firms, biotechnology therapy manufacturers, and large pharmaceutical companies. He has developed regulatory operations and technologies, and assisted the FDA in its initiative to develop electronic submissions standards. Bob's recent projects include designing tracking databases for regulated clinical research operations, and validating a laboratory blood sample tracking system near Chon Buri, Thailand.

When he is not busy pulling rabbits from hats and working miracles for his clients, he enjoys travel, photography, an occasional cigar, and a bit of wine or single-malt scotch. He has been avoiding participation in the bell choir at his church, and recently celebrated the 20th anniversary of his electrical engineering degree from MIT. He also holds a Master of Science degree in nuclear engineering and habitually speaks at a variety of industry conferences.

Amy Boyer

Technical Editor Amy Boyer is Electronic Manuscript Specialist at University of California Press, where she maintains its editing system. She is also a freelance writer and editor. She holds a B.A. in mathematics from Oberlin College and an M.A. in English from University of California Davis. In her spare time she volunteers for the California Native Plant Society, attempts to grow jicama (among other vegetables), meditates, and works on a novel .
