9.5 Additional Support for Pluggable Authentication

In addition to JAAS, the Generic Security Services API ^[6] and Simple Authentication and Security Layer (SASL) define frameworks that provide additional support for pluggable authentication. Specifically, these authentication frameworks were designed for network communication protocols. Details of using these security services can be found in the documentation for the Java 2 SDK V1.4. Support for Kerberos and its integration with JAAS are also described in the Java 2 SDK V1.4 documentation.
