Remove Software Remnants

During the process of installing and removing software and patches, software remnants are sometimes left behind. This can include empty directories, unused start-up scripts, and modules which were replaced by patches.

HP-UX ” Remove saved patches.

By default during patch installation, rollback copies of all patch files modified are saved in /var/adm/sw/save/ . After verifying the operation of the patched systems, the disk space being used by the before-image can be reclaimed by marking the patches "committed." However, once a patch is committed, there is no way to uninstall the patch with swremove . The following command will commit all the patches.

 swmodify -x patch_commit=true '*.*'
