Chapter 5: Red Hat Network Configuration

Overview

This chapter discusses the network configuration tools available for easily configuring network connections on Linux. Network configuration differs depending on whether you are connected to a local area network (LAN) with an Ethernet card or are using a DSL or ISDN modem, a wireless connection, or a dial-up modem connection. You had the opportunity to enter your LAN network settings during the installation process. For modifying your LAN settings and for configuring other kinds of interfaces such as sDSL, wireless, or ISDN connections, you can configure your network connection using redhat-config-network. To add a new connection, you start up the Internet Connection Wizard directly. Table 5-1 lists several different network configuration tools.

Internet Connection Wizard	Red Hat wizard to configure a new network connection such as Ethernet, modem, DSL, wireless, VPN, Token Ring, or ISDN. Invokes redhat-config-network.
redhat-config-network	Red Hat network configuration tool for all types of connections. Uses the Internet Connection Wizard to add a new connection.
Network Device Control	Activates and deactivates network interfaces.
redhat-config-services	Starts and stops servers, including network servers.
redhat-config-securitylevel	Sets up a network firewall.
redhat-config-bind	Configures a Domain Name Server.
wvdial	PPP modem connection, enter on a command line.
pand	Bluetooth Personal Network.
