56 Change the Movie's Volume

As you know, your movie can contain two audio tracks: the Audio track that contains the audio included with the video you imported or captured into your project, and the audio on the Audio/Music track that you added separately.

The two audio tracks often play at the same time, as would be the case if you added music that was to play beneath a voice speaking in the movie. The only potential problem you can run up against with two audio tracks is that the volume on each track might compete with one another. Movie Maker enables you to adjust the volume levels of the audio tracks so that one is dominant and the other remains in the background.

  1. Select Tools, Audio Levels

To inform Movie Maker that you want to adjust the relative volume between the two audio tracks, select Audio Levels from the Tools menu to display the Audio Levels dialog box.

    TIP

To completely mute one of the audio tracks, slide the Audio From Video slider control all the way in the direction of the other audio track. If, therefore, you slide the Audio From Video slider all the way to the Audio/Music side, any audio from the Audio track is muted and will not play.

  2. Drag the Slider

Drag the slider toward the Audio From Video option if you want to increase the volume of the video's original audio track. Drag the slider toward the Audio/Music option if you want to increase the volume of the audio you added to the Audio/Music track. As you increase the volume of one track, Movie Maker also decreases the volume of the other track accordingly .

  3. Click to Close

    NOTE

During playback within Movie Maker, the audio from the Audio track might begin to play even when you've slid the Audio From Video slider control all the way to the Audio/Music track. The playback will not occur in your final movie, however, that you eventually create in Movie Maker ( see 85 Start the Save Movie Wizard ).

Click the Close button to close the Audio Levels dialog box and return to Movie Maker with your audio levels adjusted to your liking.
