Chapter 25: Using the Crystal Launchpad and Web Desktop

Overview

As a web-based application, Crystal Enterprise can be customized extensively to integrate with your organization s own intranet or Internet look and feel. However, many organizations don t have the resources or can t justify the effort to undertake serious custom Crystal Enterprise integration. For these organizations, Crystal Enterprise 10 (CE) provides out-of-the-box applications that provide full CE capabilities.

The two major user interfaces that end users in charge of day-to-day operation of CE will probably encounter are the Crystal Launchpad and the Web Desktop. The Crystal Launchpad is a simple home page that contains links to documentation, other sample user interfaces, and the Web Desktop. The Web Desktop (also known as ePortfolio) is the actual end- user application that report and document viewers and schedulers use on a day-to-day basis to interact with Crystal Enterprise 10.

Note

This chapter deals exclusively with end-user interaction with CE via the Launchpad and Web Desktop. Administrative tools, including maintenance procedures and steps to publish reports to Crystal Enterprise, are covered in Chapter 26.
