Bluetooth is a low-power, short-range wireless technology for connecting personal, handheld, and portable electronic devices. The low cost and reasonably high data rates make it an attractive solution for replacing cluttered wired connections within short distances. The Bluetooth technology is a hybrid packet-switched wireless communication system capable of supporting both voice and packet data communication services. It was developed for worldwide use in the unlicensed 2.4-GHz radio spectrum. The motivation for Bluetooth was governed by seven requirements.
Bluetooth will be adopted by manufacturers of PDAs, laptop and desktop computers, and other mobile devices. The main applications for Bluetooth are replacement of cables for keyboard, mouse, and personal communication devices; personal ad hoc connectivity; and mobile routers. |
