  • Prerequisites and System Requirements

  • Standard or Enterprise Edition?

  • Setting Up Your Development Environment

This chapter explains how to get your system ready to develop applications with SQL-NS. We'll cover how to install SQL-NS and set up your development environment to build and run the sample code in this book.

Caution

This is a one-time setup that will be used in all subsequent chapters of this book. It's important that you take the time now to get properly set up before moving on.

SQL-NS is a flexible product and can be installed in a number of ways, depending on your particular environment and needs. The way you install and configure SQL-NS on the systems you use to develop your applications will likely differ from the way you install and configure it on the production systems on which you deploy your finished applications. This chapter describes the most common installation scenarios for development. Chapter 13, "Deploying a SQL-NS Instance,"addresses deployment and describes how to install SQL-NS in several types of production environments. In addition to working with this book's sample code, you'll be able to use the development environment set up in this chapter to develop your own SQL-NS applications as well.
