Summary

In this chapter, you learned about some of the additional media types available to help you augment your screen video footage. In addition to your Camtasia Recorder captures and still images, you can create special title clips to help you label your content, audio content using either the Voice Narration tool or the Camtasia Audio Editor, and camera video using the Record Camera tool.

Inserting a title clip is simple. After choosing Add Title Clip…, you must give the clip a name, choose a background color (or image to serve as the background), and then add your text. The text content can be formatted just like you would in any word processing application. Options for changing the font, size, color, and alignment are all represented.

For adding audio narration post-recording, you have two options: the Voice Narration tool or the Camtasia Audio Editor. The former is mainly for lending your voice to a quick how-to video where a high degree of polish is neither desired nor expected. The latter is better suited to lengthier, more professional productions. Retakes are easier, and the ability to mix in additional audio files grants you some much appreciated flexibility.

For the recording of system sound, you were presented with four options:

  • Change the input source of your sound card to “listen” to the system sound rather than your microphone.

  • Use Total Recorder to digitally capture the audio signal being processed by your sound card.

  • Run a cable from your sound card’s output to loop back into its microphone or line in port.

  • Position your microphone to record the sound coming from your speakers.

Finally, we discussed the recording of Picture-in-Picture content. Once you’ve selected the right video device and set your audio options, adding PIP video to your screen recordings post-capture becomes child’s play. You’ll learn how to position and otherwise edit this newly recorded content in the next chapter.
