Appendix A: Data Analysis

The highlighted statistics in this book were derived using data from a database of approximately 16,000 people who participated in 360-degree assessments developed and administered by Assessment Plus, an Atlanta-based firm with worldwide clients and an affiliation with the University of Georgia, where graduate students are sometimes tapped to conduct applied research on clients’ data. Assessment Plus and its team of organizational psychologists and coaches worked with us to develop Transparency Edge 360 ., a leadership inventory that provides feedback on the nine behaviors outlined in this book.

We asked Assessment Plus a few questions aimed at helping readers further understand the data and the 360-degree assessment process. Our questions and their answers follow.

Who is Represented in the Database?

The database used to provide research in this book consists primarily of senior- and upper-level management in Fortune 500 organizations from various industries as well as government agencies. Some of the industries represented in this database include (but are not limited to) pharmaceuticals, telecommunications, technology, consumer products, and manufacturing. The participants and raters who provided data are located in various geographic locations throughout the world.
