80 Exporting Audio from Premiere Pro

#80 Exporting Audio from Premiere Pro

Exporting audio is useful for creating audio menus for DVDs or CD-Audio discs, or for editing your audio in an editor other than Adobe Audition (which you can always access via right-click commands). You can export either a work area or an entire sequence, so if you're exporting just a work area, create that first (#14).

Here's how to export audio from Premiere Pro.

For Multi-Scene Projects with Different Audio Sources

Consider exporting the entire audio file and importing it into Audition where you can view the composite waveform. This will highlight which scenes have lower or higher volume than the others, and you can fix the problem in Premiere Pro or Audition (#74).

1.

Choose File > Export > Audio. Premiere Pro will open the Export Audio dialog box.

2.

Click Settings. Premiere Pro will open the Export Audio Settings dialog box open to the General tab (Figure 80a).

3.

In the General tab, do the following:

  • Choose the desired file type in the File Type drop-down menu.

  • If desired, select the Add to Project When Finished checkbox to add the audio file to the Project panel after exporting.

  • If desired, select the Beep When Finished checkbox, and Premiere Pro will beep after completing the export.

  • On the left side of the dialog box, click Audio to open the Audio tab.

4.

In the Audio tab (Figure 80b), do the following:

  • Choose the desired settings for Compressor, Sample Rate, Sample Type, Channels, and Interleave.

Note

It's generally simplest to choose the default settings for all Export Audio Settings parameters and edit to your final target in Audition or other audio editor.

5.

In the Export Audio Settings dialog box, click OK (not shown) to return to the Export Audio dialog box where you can name and choose a storage location for your file. Click Save when finished, and Premiere Pro will render and store the audio file.
