100 Previewing Your DVD

#100 Previewing Your DVD

Here's a checklist of tests I perform before burning a DVD. Click File > Preview and join in (Figure 100).

Figure 100. Encore DVD's very capable Project Preview panel.

1.

Check First Play by addressing the following:

  • Does the correct video or menu appear (with the desired audio or video background).

  • If a menu, does it time out or loop as desired (if appropriate).

  • If a video, is the End Action correct? Click the Execute End Action icon to test it.

2.

For each menu, check the following:

  • When you arrive at the menu, is the proper button highlighted? You control this for each menu in that menu's Properties panel with the Default Button setting.

  • Check button routing using all four arrow keys through all buttons in the menu. Is operation consistent and logical? Do all arrow keys access all buttons?

  • If a menu, does it time out properly and execute the appropriate End Action?

3.

Click all navigational menus to navigate to and from all menus.

4.

For all content buttons, check the following:

  • Does it play the target content?

  • Does the content have the correct End Action?

  • Does the DVD go to the correct menu when interrupted with title or remote menu buttons?
