Because memos can pertain to so many different areas of your life work responsibilities, directions to the family picnic, study notes you'll want to create plenty of categories to organize your information. To assign a category to a memo, open the memo, tap Details, and select a category name. Consider matching these categories up with the categories you use in other applications. Create or edit categories by selecting Edit Categories from the pick list. Mark important categories Put a symbol such as a plus (+) or asterisk (*) before a category name to make it appear first on the category list. |

Naming memos Establish conventions within a category for how you name memos. For instance, for a memo category called "Diary," start with the date, or in a category called "Recipes" start with "Soup," "Salad," or "Dessert." Remember that the first words of a memo become the title you see in list view. |
Filing methods If you take a lot of short memos and have trouble organizing them, begin each memo with a date/time stamp ( dts). Or begin with a number such as 004 or 005, and file memos alphabetically by setting a filing preference in Menu > Options > Preferences. |
Memo categories Set exercise goals Create a category called "Workouts." Make a memo titled "Goals, [current month]" with a list of your exercise goals for the month. Each month, copy and paste last month's text into a new memo, and write in your new goals. Now you can track your progress throughout the year. Track job progress Create a category called "Work Goals." Every week, create memos for each accomplishment. Write a few lines about what you did and the specific results. Before your performance review, send the memos to Word so you can create a self-evaluation to present to your boss (Palm Desktop > Edit > Send To > MS Word). Taxes Keep track of expenditures that might be deductible. An entry such as "building permit, $75, July 23rd," filed under the category of Taxes, might come in very handy come April 15th. In fact, a few memos like that might effectively pay for your handheld within a fiscal year or two. |
Bright ideas Create a catch-all category for memos to keep track of ideas, and then organize them later. |
Merge, don't delete When you want to get rid of a category but not its entries, rename the category with an existing category name. The entries will merge into that category. |
Create memos within categories Easily create new memos in a specific category by going to the list view for that category and tapping New. Cycle through categories while in the list view by pressing right on the navigator. |
