Whether you're sending a quick request for info to a colleague or a whole category of stuff to friends, the beaming process is the same. But the possibilities are endless. Beam home repair tasks to your family, beam your hairdresser's name and number to a friend, beam your gumbo recipe (with photo, but without secret ingredient) to your chief culinary rival. Beam your calendar Beam your boss your business appointments for the week. From Day View of Calendar, select Menu > Record > Beam Category. Make sure you have a category for business appointments. To learn about categories, see page 24. To learn how to get organized with Calendar, see page 62.

Choose the right info Make sure you've selected the right entry before you beam it. The process is usually so fast that it's hard to stop in progress. |
Beam securely Whenever you beam something private, make sure you're beaming it to the right person's handheld. |

How beaming works What is IR? Infrared technology (IR) is found in most handhelds, mobile phones, and laptop computers. You can't see IR, it can't hurt you, and it works only over short distances. Distance Your handheld's IR works between any two IR devices within a meter (about 39 inches) of each other. The IR port on your handheld is on the top of the device, and can share info only with devices within a direct line of sight. Beam faster To maximize beaming speed, set the devices on a flat surface about a foot apart (but not directly touching), and avoid areas with flickering or neon lights. Temperature extremes can also affect beaming. |
Beaming in action At a study group, each person brings notes from a different chapter and beams them to the group. Traveling salespeople beam the previous day's sales logs to colleagues. A maid of honor beams the updated schedule to the whole wedding party.
What you can beam Any entry currently displayed in Calendar, Contacts, Tasks, Notes, or Memos The contents of any category available in Contacts, Tasks, or Memos Your business card or another designated entry in Contacts Applications installed in memory that are not locked Individual files such as photos, application documents, and more
|
Beaming applications To identify beamable applications, select Home > Menu > App > Beam. Anything without a lock icon can be beamed. To learn how to lock and unlock individual entries, see page 35. Applications built into your handheld, such as Calendar or Contacts, as well as some third-party apps, can't be beamed.
