Acknowledgments

It is impossible to complete a project like this without considerable help and involvement from a number of different people from all walks of life and backgrounds. This book is no exception, and though at times the experience was rather trying, it was also rewarding . At times the participants threw about a little humor to make it a much more enjoyable task.

My initial thanks must go to my family. My wife, Joy; sons, Danny and Max; mother, Barbara, and brother Brian; as well as other friends and family members who helped me a great deal in maintaining my sanity and taking on additional tasks to leave me alone to do my work.

Considerable thanks to Ed Tetz and Chris Miller, whose direct input to the book took a great deal of the workload off my shoulders and assisted in multitudes when it came down to crunch time. Yes, Chris, the TOC was a considerable challenge, and I do agree about the "Kludgy piece ..." Ed, you have a true knack for what Microsoft will look for on the exam. Both gentlemen deserve accolades beyond what I can put here in print.

The technical reviewers for this book are nothing short of awesome . They were thorough and honest, and at times aggravating ”but that is what makes for a good reviewer. Wayne Snyder, you are a godsend; your determination to check every last detail and correct the oversights from the contributing authors helped guarantee the accuracy and thorough coverage of all exam topics. David Besch, your input as well was greatly appreciated and the care and concern shown from someone who has "been there before and brought back a t-shirt" helped me recognize the importance of each element in the book. You also helped reform me, and I have now been converted to an SQL-92 coder . Sheldon Barry, although you came into the project late, you added to the technical depth of the book and your timeliness and response was prized. At the times when my work was less than accurate, you guys really came through. A couple of rather humorous quotes: "the 900 buts (bytes)" and "SQL Server Installation Screen (OSQL)." I hope they amused you as much as they did me.

For Elise Walter, Jeff Riley, Chris Zahn, Frederick Speers, and anyone else that I have failed to mention. This project could have never come off without your expertise, patience, assistance, and professionalism . Thank you, Frederick, for your guidance, suggestions, and psychotherapy, without which I am sure I would be in the nut-house by now. As well as to you, Jeff ”your meticulous attention to detail and follow-up made writing this book a true experience, most of which was quite enjoyable.

A final word of thanks to John and Becky Sanderson of TechServices, Fort Wayne, Indiana, and all the rest of the staff of TechServices. The time given to do this book and just the opportunity to know and work with you all made my life richer than money could ever define.

Thomas Moore

I would like to thank Jeff Riley, who brought me into this project, after months of trying to find something for me to work on; Fred Speers, who tied everyone together on the project; and the technical editors, who spotted everything that we missed. Finally, I would also like to thank my wife, Sharon, and our daughters, Emily and Mackenzie. They have been loving and supportive as always, and I have missed many hours with them as I wrote on this book. Thank you all.

Edward Tetz
