This book is dedicated to the five great women in my life:
My mother, Carole, never wavered in her love for me, sacrificed so much so that I might have a chance at a better life and who instilled in me the basic values that I carry with me as a man today;
My aunt, Gladys, who is incapable of suppressing her love and who squeezes me harder when she sees me than any body check I ˜ve ever received playing hockey;
My grandmother, Jennie, who, despite a lifetime of sickness and physical pain, remains the most positive, upbeat, happy and unconditionally loving person I know;
My wife, Karen, who has loved and accepted me and who has always inspired me to reach beyond what I thought I was capable of (including writing this book);
and finally my daughter , Kelsey, who has taught me more about my place in the world in the last three years than I learned in the 34 years I was on the planet before her combined and who has opened up within me a well of love and devotion I did not believe
I possessedI love you all ..
Chris

This book is dedicated to my partners Joe and Rich and to the employees who have worked so hard to make TUSC a success. It is an absolutely honor and privilege to wake up each day knowing that each and everyone at TUSC is striving to make a difference in the world.
We have forever changed IT and will continue to do so!
Brad

“Brad

There are so many people involved in writing a book like this and so many of the people I have worked with during this process have been incredibly gracious and selfless I ˜m afraid that my words will not fully express how profoundly grateful I am for having had the opportunity to work with all of you, but here goes:

Karen Ostrowski ”my wife Karen has made incredible sacrifices to give me the opportunity to write this book. There is no way I would have been able to complete it without her support and encouragement. I can ˜t imagine a life without you. I love you with all of my heart.

Brad Brown ”thank you so much for giving me the opportunity to do this and for creating a company where everyone is encouraged to grow not only as employees, but also as human beings. Your unselfish words of encouragement kept me going through many a dark hour . I am so grateful for having the opportunity to work along side you and I admire you for living the Traits of the Uncommon Leader every day. Brad also provided technical edits for all of the chapters, which he was able to fit in his schedule while running a company, volunteering for various worthy causes, performing in triathlons and being one of the most devoted fathers to his children that I know. I will always look at your life with incredulity wondering how you do it.

Julie Smith/Lisa McClain/Athena Honore - Julie, Lisa and Athena make up the Osborne/ McGraw-Hill team that I dealt with every day during the writing of this book. Their professionalism , encouragement and patience (through my various missed deadlines) was indispensable for a first-time author. Come out to Denver and we ˜ll go out for a beer ”I ˜m buyin ˜!

Mark Bullen: Mark wrote Chapter 16. Mark unselfishly gave up his time to help me out in his areas of specialty and because of this, I was able to overlook the fact that he is a Red Wings fan. Thanks, Mark! (Go Avs!)

Brian Conneen: Technical Editor extraordinaire!, Lisa Goldstein, the publisher liaison for the App Server group , and Peter Farkas, Brian ˜s manager who is helping ensure he has time to get the reviews done

Everyone at TUSC, but especially :Robin Fingerson: Robin wrote Chapter 3 and was always available with a joke when times got hard. If you see Robin, ask about her dogs, but whatever you do, don ˜t talk to her about politics!

Shaun O ˜Brien and Brad Gibson jumped in and each wrote a chapter (Shaun wrote Chapter 14) at the last minute when deadlines were looming large. The book would not have been completed without their incredibly unselfish offer to write those two chapters. Guys, I owe you one, BIG TIME!

Kevin Loney told it to me straight about the effort and commitment needed to write a book, unselfishly gave of his time to answer any questions I had about the process and sent me unsolicited emails asking about my progress. Thanks, Kevin!

Gillian Kofal wrote part of Chapter 16 and, along with everyone else at TUSC, unselfishly gave of her time even during a very busy time in her life. Thanks, Gillie!

Mark Pelzel, Chelsea Graylin and William Lewkow, for forming the best management team I have EVER worked for in any company (and being a consultant, I ˜ve had a chance to work with a LOT of companies).

A very special acknowledgement goes out to someone who went so far and above the call of friendship that I am truly in awe of him as a friend. Gregg Petri not only wrote Chapter 12, but he provided detailed feedback on every single chapter of the book. All of this while raising three small children and with nothing but humor and compassion in his voice at all times. Gregg did all of this with absolutely no prodding on my part whatsoever. Along with Brad and my wife Karen, this book would not have been possible without your tireless and selfless efforts. I am so grateful for having a best friend like you. A special thanks also goes out to Gregg ˜s family: Aimee, Chase, Madgian and Taryn.

My friends and family: My Dad, Robert Ostrowski, my other Dad, Andrew Fedak, Diana, Richard, Michael and Thomas McKinley, Betty Thompson, Greg, Cindy, Chris, Brittany and Ryan Free, Joyce Free, Stephen, Pat, Drew, Stevie and Jack Fedak, Denise Fedak, Darron DeRosa, Fred, Stephanie and Carrie Wilcoxson, Bob and Denise May, Ken, Tracy, Jessica and Chris Hei, Deb, Richard, Melanie, Emily and Natalie Clarke, William Heath, Bill Haas, Paul Haines, Eric Linneman, Quentin, Claudine, Cassadee and Quincy Jaksch, Carl Strauss, Jason Stueve, Rick Hata, Mike and Kady Kofal, The Vroom School Crew of Bayonne, NJ: Jeff Finkelstein, John Guterman, Marc Geffen and David Ripps (in memoriam), Stacey, Brandon, Kendall and Riley Tinianov, Sheila Heitzig, Allison Leech, Wayne McGurk
