Chapter 4: Building the Project Team

OVERVIEW

To achieve a successful project you need a successful project team. Without a strong team the expectations of the organization will not be met because the project will fail to deliver. You need to remember that the team is not only the people working directly on the project. Your team is all of the people involved, either directly or indirectly. All of these people are needed to ensure success or failure in the eyes of the sponsoring organization. It is your role to bring this team together and enable them to deliver the organization's demands. You cannot deliver success by yourself; you need a team to help you.

To achieve this you need to consider four areas with respect to team building and motivation:

  1. Define the project team.

  2. Motivate the project team.

  3. Listen to the project team.

  4. Gain the respect of the project team.
