WORK BREAKDOWN SUMMARY

You should now be able to produce a final work breakdown structure. The steps taken to reach this stage are:

• Turn the macro plan through 90 degrees, creating a number of potential work packages.

• Interpret and question the results in order to decide the work packages.

• Complete a template for each work package, giving a broad outline and targets for the schedule production.

• Produce an initial schedule using brainstorming techniques.

• Translate the work package and its associated schedule into a set of deliverables.

• From the deliverables, work with experts to produce a schedule.

• Revise all work packages to check all information is coherent .

• Get steering group approval for the plan.

Following the steps outlined should ensure that your project is properly planned and has a completed business case and a completed work breakdown structure. In addition, the people in the project should have a clear understanding of what they personally have to do.
