Identifying Assets

Start the process by creating a list of assets deemed important to the business. In some cases, combining general assets into one category makes sense. Specific assets such as mail servers and individual software packages should be identified separately. It's useful to record a person who is responsible for each asset. Today's information-centric businesses should focus on identifying critical information within business transactions, as this information is often irreplaceable in catastrophic disasters.
