Chapter 4 -- Connecting to Active Directory

Chapter 4

Connecting to Active Directory

Our focus now turns to using Active Directory with Active Directory Service Interfaces (ADSI). In this chapter, I'll describe how to use ADSI to connect to Active Directory and bind to directory objects. I'll touch on some security topics, particularly authentication. Building on the COM primer presented in Chapter 3, I'll provide more information about various ADSI interfaces and show how they are used in different programming languages. If you are familiar with Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP) programming, you'll find many of the terms similar because of the LDAP foundation that Active Directory and ADSI are built on.
