Chapter 2 -- Active Directory Architecture

Chapter 2

Active Directory Architecture

Active Directory is designed to be the single directory for any size organization. Active Directory works well for a small business operating out of a home office or a large conglomerate with hundreds of thousands of users. To create applications that work well with Active Directory, developers need to understand Active Directory's capabilities and the concepts it is built on. In this chapter, I'll describe the components of Active Directory, explain how Active Directory replicates information between servers in an organization, provide examples of how Active Directory is used, and then complete the chapter with a description of some of the tools you'll use to work with Active Directory.
