Chapter 9: Adding Tables, Charts, and Diagrams

Overview

In this chapter you will learn to:

  • Insert and format a table.

  • Insert an Excel worksheet.

  • Insert and format a chart.

  • Insert and format an organization chart.

Often you will want to bolster the argument you are making in a Microsoft Office PowerPoint 2003 presentation with facts and figures that are best presented in a table, chart, or diagram. These objects are all easily placed on PowerPoint slides that have been assigned a layout that includes a content placeholder. You use them as follows :

  • You use tables to condense information into highly structured row and column grid formats that make it easy to identify categories or individual items and make comparisons. If the tabular information already exists ”for example, as a Microsoft Office Excel worksheet ”you can import it into a PowerPoint table or embed it as an object in a PowerPoint slide.

  • You use charts to present numerical information in visual ways when it is more important for your audience to understand trends than identify precise values. If you have already created a chart in another program, you can embed it as an object.

  • You use diagrams to depict hierarchies or processes. PowerPoint s diagramming tool enables you to easily create organization charts and cycle, radial, pyramid, Venn, and target diagrams.

In this chapter, you will insert and modify a table, a chart, and an organization chart. You will also import an Excel worksheet as an embedded object, and will modify the object from within PowerPoint.
