Inserting and Modifying Stylized Text

 Microsoft Office Specialist     You can insert stylized text into a presentation by using WordArt . With WordArt, you can add visual enhancements to your text that go beyond changing a font or font size ”in effect, you turn words into a picture. WordArt can be used to emphasize short phrases, such as Our Customers Come First , or a single word, such as Welcome .

You don t have to be an artist to create stylized text ”WordArt includes a gallery of choices that enable you to stretch your text horizontally, vertically, or diagonally. You can also change the character spacing and reshape the text. You insert stylized text by first clicking the Insert WordArt button on the Drawing toolbar and then selecting a style.

In this exercise, you will insert WordArt into a slide and then format it.

USE the InsertWordArt presentation in the practice file folder for this topic. This practice file is located in the My Documents\Microsoft Press\PowerPoint 2003 SBS\AddingPicture\InsertingArt folder and can also be accessed by clicking Start/All Programs/Microsoft Press/PowerPoint 2003 Step by Step .

OPEN the InsertWordArt presentation.

  1. On the View menu, point to Toolbars , and then click Drawing to turn on the Drawing toolbar.

  2. With Slide 1 displayed, click the Insert WordArt button on the Drawing toolbar.

    The WordArt Gallery dialog box appears, displaying a list of styles.

  3. Click the style in the third column of the fourth row.

  4. Click OK .

    Tip  

    If you want to change the shape of a WordArt object after you ve created it, you can click the WordArt Gallery button on the WordArt toolbar. For even greater variety, you can select the object and then manually stretch and rotate it.

    The Edit WordArt Text dialog box appears.

  5. In the Text box, type In the Herb Garden .

    The text appears in the Arial Black font at 36 points.

  6. Change the Size setting to 60 , and click OK .

    The text appears below the slide title, and the WordArt toolbar is displayed.

  7. On the WordArt toolbar, click the WordArt Shape button, and then click the Triangle Up symbol in the first row.

    The WordArt text appears as a triangle.

  8. On the WordArt toolbar, click the WordArt Character Spacing button, and then click Very Loose on the drop-down menu.

    The width of the WordArt object increases to accommodate the additional space between the characters .

  9. On the WordArt toolbar, click the Format WordArt button.

    The Format WordArt dialog box appears.

  10. Click the Size tab, and in the Size and rotate area, click the up arrow to the right of the Height box until its setting is approximately 2".

  11. Click the Position tab, and change the setting in the Vertical box to 0.5" and click OK .

    The WordArt object moves above the slide title.

  12. On the Drawing toolbar, click the Shadow Style button, and then click Shadow Style 18 in the second column of the last row.

  13. Click the Shadow Style button again, and then click Shadow Settings in the drop- down menu.

    The Shadow Settings toolbar appears.

  14. On the Shadow Settings toolbar, click the Nudge Shadow Left button five times.

    The WordArt shadow increases in depth.

  15. Turn off the Shadow Settings toolbar and the Drawing toolbar, and click a blank area of the slide.

    The WordArt toolbar closes when you deselect the WordArt object, and you can see the results of your work.

  16. On the Standard toolbar, click the Save button to save the presentation.

CLOSE the InsertWordArt presentation, and if you are not continuing on to the next chapter, quit PowerPoint.
