Chapter 3: Working with Outlines

Overview

In this chapter you will learn to:

  • Enter and view text.

  • Edit text.

  • Rearrange text and slides.

  • Format text in an outline.

  • Import an outline from Word.

  • Send an outline or notes to Word.

Before you create a presentation, you ll need to gather your thoughts, either by holding ideas in your head, jotting them down on paper, or storing them electronically . No matter how you undertake this preparation, when it s time to create the presentation, Microsoft Office PowerPoint 2003 provides you with the editing and outlining tools you need to quickly organize text on slides and rearrange slides within a presentation.

If the information you want to use already exists in another Microsoft Office System program, such as Microsoft Office Word 2003, you can easily import it and then work with it in PowerPoint to create a coherent presentation. If you want to use the text from a PowerPoint presentation in another Office program, you can just as easily export it.

In this chapter, you ll enter and edit text on the Outline tab of the Outline/Slides pane. You ll delete and rearrange text and slides, format text, and insert additional information from a Word document. When you are satisfied with the presentation s outline, you ll save it in formats that can be used by Word and other programs.
