Overview

Most people in the United States have received at least a few personalized form letters. Even kids get them! You know the sort of thing ” your name is sprinkled liberally throughout, with a few references to the city in which you live or some other item of personal information. Mail of this sort is an example of the use, and often the abuse, of the mail merge feature available with many word processing programs.

In this chapter, we introduce you to the mysteries of mail merge. Actually, with Word 2002, mail merge isn t even all that mysterious . We ll start with a definition, and then go on to create some typical mail merge projects including a letter, mailing labels, and envelopes. You can use the skills you learn here to communicate with any group of people, such as your clients , employees , or club members .
