Robert Ian Oliver

Robert Ian Oliver coauthored Upgrading Microsoft Visual Basic 6.0 to Microsoft Visual Basic .NET (Microsoft Press, 2002). Currently a Program Manager in Microsoft's Trusted Platforms team, Ian was a member of the Visual Studio .NET Porting Lab team for over two-and-a-half years. During this period he worked with many real-world customer applications, porting them to the .NET platform and doing performance and architectural analysis. His previous experience varies widely, from being an independent Web consultant to working at the Intel Corporation as a component design engineer on the first Itanium server chipset. Ian has been involved in Web development as far back as 1995 and has designed and built many ecommerce applications over the years . Ian has a B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering from Seattle University.

Contributing Authors

Sarath Kumar Mallavarapu has more than seven years of experience in the software industry of which over four years are at Microsoft. He is currently an Escalation Engineer in critical problem resolution and helps resolve complex and technical customer issues with both the .NET Framework and Visual Studio .NET product suite. He has written numerous Microsoft Knowledge Base articles and has been involved with many MSDN white papers. Prior to his current position, Sarath involved in the Visual Studio .NET Joint Development Partners and Early Adopters projects. He also worked closely with the Visual Studio .NET Porting Lab team.

Devin Breshears is currently a developer on the MSN Home & Auto team. Prior to this he was a member of the Visual Studio Porting Lab team. Devin has extensive experience migrating WinDNA-based enterprise applications to Visual Studio .NET and the .NET Framework. He lives with his wife and three children on a small horse farm in Edgewood, Washington.   When he is not working around his farm, you can find him golfing, fishing , or camping with his family.

Vishnu Patankar is a developer in the Windows Security team at Microsoft. He works on Security Policy and Security Management products and strategies for the Windows operating system. Prior to joining Microsoft, Vishnu worked at the Intel Corporation (analyzing symmetric multiprocessor [SMP] cache- coherence protocols and microarchitecture trade-offs) and Texas Instruments (simulating combinational logic for digital signal processors). Vishnu has an M.S. degree in Computer Engineering from Carnegie Mellon University (Pittsburgh) and an M.S. in Mathematics and a B.E. in Electronics Engineering from the Birla Institute of Technology and Science (Pilani).
