There are no Calcutta nuns that I know of currently working in telecom in the U.S. There’s also nobody like Special Agent Fox Mulder running around, working 24 hours a day to unravel the mystery of why you can’t call your Aunt Maybell in Des Moines.

The people who work at phone companies are just like you. They put in their eight hours and gladly leave on time. You shouldn’t expect everyone you speak to at your carrier to have an emotional connection and conviction to resolve your issues. If you do have a pleasant interaction with someone who is sharp and attentive, be sure to thank this wonderful person profusely while you quietly write down his or her direct phone number.

 Tip  Great people can turn a three-day nightmare into a five-minute annoyance. Send them a you’re so great letter, and they will probably make themselves available for you when you need them later.
