SOME OF THE MAIN TOPICS IN THIS CHAPTER ARE
Token-Ring networks have been around for about the same length of time as Ethernet. These two network technologies accomplish the same thing, in that they allow devices on the network to exchange data in an orderly fashion. The methods they employ to accomplish this task, however, are fundamentally different. Because of the different methods used to mediate access to the network, the hardware used for Token-Ring and Ethernet networks is not generally interchangeable. That is, you cannot simply pick up a workstation that is configured on an Ethernet network and move it to a Token-Ring network without some hardware changes. |
