Program Neighborhood allows a wide variety of clients to connect to Citrix servers. Among these are DOS, Win16, Win32, Java, Unix, Macintosh and OS/2 clients providing true platform independence. This chapter focused on the Win32 client and its feature set. The Win32 and Java clients are the only Citrix ICA clients that support Program Neighborhood.

The three main views in Program Neighborhood we discussed were the Application Set Manager, Custom Connection Settings, and Default views. The Application Set Manager view allows clients to connect to published application sets, or farms. The Custom Connections Settings view allows for connection to specific published applications or directly to a server. The Default view is the initial application set a user connects to when launching Program Neighborhood, and it is set in the Application Set Manager view. We also covered how to configure icons in these views.

Later, the Program Neighborhood toolbar was introduced, which includes seven buttons: Up, Refresh, Delete, Properties, Settings, and Views. Each was explained. Also, we covered the PN menu items, which allow for customization of the client software.

Last, we covered application publishing from the Citrix Management Console, and how to provide the correct applications to the users. We described the two types of users, Anonymous and Explicit, and how they affect PN delivery and security. We also saw that, no matter where you go, you will always get the right set of applications.
