Installing a Single XP Server

  • The default zone name installed is the network address for the server.

  • Once shadowing options have been selected, only a reinstallation of MetaFrame XP can alter those chosen.

  • The Citrix product code is a new feature used with licensing services.

Deploying Multiple, Identical XP Servers

  • Unattend.txt, located with the setup executable, can be used to automate the installation of MetaFrame XP.

  • No more than ten simultaneous installations are recommended.

  • Server cloning is supported by MetaFrame XP, but requires manual changes after the server is installed.

Designing a Server Farm

  • The database used for the data store is determined by factors such as user connections, number of applications, and scalability.

  • No more than 100 servers should exist within a single zone.

  • A dedicated data collector is recommended in larger MetaFrame XP environments.

Migrating MetaFrame 1.8 Server Farms to XP

  • Interoperability mode, or mixed mode, can be activated either during installation or via the Citrix Management Console.

  • Mixed mode operation causes the ICA Browser and Program Neighborhood services to run on all MetaFrame XP servers

  • Various caveats exist that must be considered when using mixed mode operation, including farm naming, license pooling, application migration, ICA browser elections, and ICA gateway usage.

Connecting Clients to MetaFrame XP

  • MetaFrame XP maintains a database of client files and information used in automating and updating the client installation.

  • The ICA Client Update Configuration utility is used to manage the client database.

  • Options such as shadowing are determined in the Citrix Connection Configuration utility.
